the light on the beach - 02

After the man has left, Sap makes herself another set of Light Breakfast and sits down at the table facing the main entrance.

‘Good morning, Sap.’ Flora’s energetic voice comes from the staircase.

‘Good morning. When did you come home last night?’ Sap paused for a while, ‘or this morning?’

‘It doesn’t matter anyway, Sap. I’m sorry that you have to do everything yourself this morning. But you didn’t wake me up and I’m up now, right? You can take a rest. I’ll serve the eaters.’

Sap won’t say ‘It’s alright’ or ‘you don’t have to be sorry’ because Flora should really be sorry but she is not sorry actually. Sap takes a seat at the bar near the entrance so that she is ready to welcome the customers when Flora is busy. In fact, it’s already half an hour past the peak time. There are only 2 tables of customers and they have got their order already.

Then her sight could not help being stuck to the sky and the sea outside. It is her co-born bad habit. There is a burning desire deep inside urging her to jump into the sea. All sorts of wild thoughts rush in her mind. Once again, the most appealing one dominates –

The wind chime rings at this very moment. She cannot hear no footstep of Flora, who has probably slipped out. Swiftly, she turns to face the door and stands up, already with a smile. Then she freezes, so is her smile, for some negligible seconds.

‘Hi Sap,’ the guest greets without temperature.

‘Hi Wales!’ Sap replies a bit over-excitedly.

Wales turns and puts on a warm smile, ‘Hi Flora. Long time no see.’
